Choreographic Centre, Canberra.
Gorman House Arts Centre
Anslie Avenue
Braddon ACT 2612 Australia

The Choreographic Centre began operations in July 1996. It is the result of an extensive process of consultation with the dance community both within the ACT and across Australia, which clearly identified a need for a centre for choreographic research and development in Australia. Its programs target emerging choreographic practice and emerging choreographers.
Programs
Choreographic Fellowships are the centrepiece of the Centre's programs. A Fellowship is intended to provide choreographers with significant fully funded opportunity to create new material, and the time and resources to develop their craft.
Unfunded Choreographic Residencies may take many forms, which could include subsidised periods at the Centre, special projects for which funding is separatly sought, secondments from professional dance companies, or a range of structures developed around free acess to the Centre's spaces.

The 'Port War Signal Station’ known as the ‘Forts' on Magnetic Island built as a World War Two gun emplacement,
As part of Magnetic Island National Park, the Forts offer visitors an insight into the past as well as a spectacular viewing point over this part of the North Queensland coast. Wildlife abounds here with sea eagles and ospreys often seen overhead. Honeyeaters, friar birds and leaden flycatchers are among the other birds to be found here. Koalas can often be seen sleeping in the trees along the track during the day.
The track starts near the Radical Bay turnoff. It winds its way along the ridge with good views above Arthur and Florence Bays. On the way up there are two gun emplacements. Some of the "rocks" are actually false, being the remains of the camouflaging over the gun barrells. At the top there are two buildings, the Observation tower and the Command Post, from where there is an uninterupted view of the coast. To the north is Palm Island
