My association with Youdell has been particularly fruitful as it has allowed me to pursue the concern of the figure in/as the landscape, which has been constant throughout my career. This has always played on elements of decontextualisation and surrealism. Further the input of another artist from a different medium (movement), has forced me to rethink my traditional approach, in light of her creative input. This development has been valuable for me, and I have enjoyed watching the process work in reverse.

Glen O'Malley has lived up and down the east coast of Australia and currently lives at Woopen Creek near Innisfail. He has worked as an exhibiting photographer, nationally and internationally since 1975 and has photographed extensively throughout Qld, leading to exhibitions such as Four and a Half Months in the North (1979) and Journey's North (1988). Currently his photographic work is more obviously concerned with the surreal nature of the world. Recent solo exhibitions include 'Whistling With The Angels' at Perc Tucker Regional Art Gallery and 'On The Way' at Gallery 482, Brisbane. His work generally has consistently been concerned with figures and environments. O'Malley has become involved in collaboration both photographically ('Listening to Skin' with Youdell) and digitally (He is the only regional artist in 'nervous_objects' who were involved in an on-line installation 'Lingua Electrica' linked to the international symposium on electronic arts in Chicago held in 1997, and currently developing new work.) <www.znet.net.au/~deepnth> |
