Bonemap Bridge Song

In the shadow of the Story Bridge, the performance space at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts is to provide a setting for a new artistic collaboration Bridge Song between creative intermedia artists Bonemap and live sonic artists Clocked Out Duo on the 12-14 June, 2003.

Intimate, thoughtful and engaging, Bridge Song leads us on a journey across bridges through the lens of urban and environmental ecology. As a live art work Bridge Song illustrates the fragile interrelationship between our humanity and our environs. It reveals visual and aural impressions rendering and politicising the links between a body and its surround. Through the metaphor of Brisbane's Story Bridge a solitary figure explores both the hard surfaces of our built environment and the soft subconscious layers and textures of existence represented by the river.

The new performance work will introduce production designer/director Russell Milledge, choreographer/performer Rebecca Youdell, and the toy instruments & percussion kinetics of Erik Griswold and Vanessa Tomlinson to Brisbane. Together the artists explore awareness of environmental sensitivity through performative metaphors of the 'bridge'.

Milledge's ability to craft images and objects and Youdell's idiosyncratic movement sensibility produces an experiential space which fosters a rich creative dialogue with Griswold's and Tomlinson's playful and imaginative sound world.

Each night - dance, performance art, live music and projection/new media design, provide the artists with images and sounds that provoke and delight our "out-of-awareness" perceptions of time and place. Bridge Song uses the unique qualities of mediated and live performance the virtual and the visceral, to extend the potential layers of audience empathy and engagement.

BONEMAP for immediate release MARCH 2003

What impacts on quality of daily life? What does flesh, earth and weather have in common? Is living transformative for the environment?

Contemporary arts group Bonemap meditates on these questions and more in a new multidisciplinary, Live Art performance work ‘Bridge Song’ on show at Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in June.

Intimate, thoughtful and engaging, ‘Bridge Song’ will lead its audience on a journey over bridges’, through the lens of urban and environmental ecology. The work seeks to illustrate the fragile relationship between humanity and its environs with images linking visual and aural statements in a performance discussion politicising a body and surround.

An artistic collaboration between production designer/director Russell Milledge and choreographer /performer Rebecca Youdell, the performance explores awareness of environmental sensitivity through performative metaphors of the ‘bridge’.

Each night, choreographed and improvisational dance, performance art, live music and projection/new media design, provide the artists with images that provoke and delight our "out-of-awareness" perceptions of time and place. ‘Bridge Song’ uses the unique qualities of mediated and live performance – the virtual and the visceral, to extend the potential layers of audience empathy and engagement.

Milledge's ability to craft images and objects and Youdell's idiosyncratic movement sensibility produces an experiential space which fosters a rich creative dialogue.

Bonemap's work in contemporary art collaborations involving cultural exchange and creative intermedia has placed them in high profile residencies in addition to producing and touring work nationally and internationally since 1999.
